The newest rage on the Internet is using an Ethernet cable in order to connect your computer to the Internet. It is much faster than the old phone lines that were used for the past few years. However, most people are confused as to just how they can use an Ethernet cable since they may be using a modem, or perhaps their computer is a bit outdated so they may not have an Ethernet port.

Those that are working with newer laptops are going to have an Ethernet cable hook up usually located on the side or back of the computer. The cable then easily snaps into this location and begins working. For those that are using an old modem to get their Internet connection, then chances are they are stuck with the same problem that many people are when using an old computer: there is no slot for the Ethernet cable. However, this does not mean that you must go out and purchase new equipment. Instead, you can purchase a USB adapter.

This adapter plugs into the computer in the slots that are already there. Most of these USB adapters simply plug into the slots that you would normally use a stick hard drive. Then, you simply snap the Ethernet cable into the USB drive and you are ready to begin the process of utilizing the Internet. The use of a USB to Ethernet is the best option for many. The reason is because it allows for faster speeds, which means that you do not have to spend your entire time on waiting for a page to load. In addition, this does allow for you to transfer files faster than if you were to be relying on the other options.

The good news for those that want to utilize this option is that as soon as they plug the USB into the port on the computer, the computer should identify the hardware and download everything that will be needed in order to make sure that it is working properly. However, for those that are running older systems, this may not be possible. Those that are running Windows are going to find that the system works better with the USB since the program is designed to update drivers. However, those that are working with Mac systems will find that the USB to Ethernet option is a bit harder to get to work; however, it can be done with some patience and devoting time to figuring out what exactly the problem is.
